Mary Chilima Calls for Tree Care as SKC Foundation Plants 800 Trees in Lilongwe

Board Chairperson for the Saulos Klaus Chilima Foundation, Mary Chilima, has called on people in the country to take care of trees to support efforts to restore vegetative cover.

She made the call at Nanjati Primary School in Lilongwe during a tree-planting exercise organised by the foundation. Chilima said people should develop a habit of looking after trees after planting as one way of sustaining the environment.

The foundation planted 800 trees at the school, which were provided by C’ Steinweg Bridge Logistics Company. Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for the company, Wamaka Neba, said there is a need for all sectors to support Malawi’s afforestation drive.

Neba said the company aims to plant 100,000 trees by 2030, noting that Malawi has lost nearly 240 kilohacters of forest over the past 25 years.
